SpareBank 1's journey to modernizing its insurance claims processes
SpareBank 1, a network of independent banks, has a strong community presence across Norway, offering a range of banking and insurance services to customers.
In 2011, SpareBank 1's claims managers relied on outdated mainframe systems and manual processes. To modernize, they introduced Ask, a web-based case flow system that automated claims handling and document management. By 2016, they faced the challenge of managing three separate archives and chose Hyland's OnBase as their new solution.
The implementation involved consolidating three legacy archives into one, using OnBase On-Premises and Oracle Database. In 2018, SpareBank 1 partnered with Nobly, a strategic partner of Hyland’s in the Nordics. Despite mergers and rebranding to Fremtind, SpareBank 1 continued to evolve and adapt.
Even with accolades like Best Pension Supplier in Norway, IT challenges persisted. In 2021, SpareBank 1 initiated a project to implement a standalone cloud archive, a new case flow solution, and a batch document composing system. Their IT strategy focused on streamlining, standardizing, and enhancing efficiency.
They began implementing a cloud archive using Azure, with OnBase's web client, workflow integration, customized error queues, scanning functionality, and the OnBase Outlook plugin. The second phase involved deploying a case flow system with Workview, which provided structured steps and tasks for claims managers, integrated communication channels, automated tasks, and security features. This system also utilized Content Composer for document creation.
Looking ahead, SpareBank 1 is focused on developing additional case types, converting a complete batch document production system, and exploring AI applications. The company remains dedicated to maintaining high standards, aiming for customer satisfaction and ongoing recognition.
