L'Oréal
L’Oréal leverages Hyland’s Nuxeo Platform to empower 6,000 global users to manage and deliver value from its diverse brand portfolio, encompassing 7 million documents.
The challenge
To stay ahead in a competitive market, L'Oréal invests heavily in innovation, with 4,000 scientists and 5,500 technical and digital experts and a $1 Billion R&I budget. In 1998 the business initiated the Milor project to create a sustainable digital document database for research and innovation, initially focused on reducing paper usage and enhancing document management.
However, in recent years L’Oréal realized that these aging systems were holding them back: they faced usability issues with the existing document base, especially in finding documents due to complex classifications and subfolders. They needed to provide workers with enhanced user experience, to achieve GDPR compliance and improve data quality control.
The solution
L’Oréal surveyed the content services platforms market and selected Hyland’s Nuxeo Platform for its user-friendly interface, cloud-native architecture, scalability, low-code capabilities, ability to integrate with L'Oréal's information system and API management.
The implementation included Milor+, a document transformation project, with a focus on metadata-based classification rather than complex folder structures, as well as utilizing Nuxeo's document management platform and an intelligent module developed in collaboration with Hyland’s Professional Services team. The main objectives were the categorization for access rights management, confidentiality, document retention and identification of personal data.
The difference
Milor+ currently manages over 7 million documents with 6,000 users globally and supports 1,500 research and operations staff across the world. The project operates 24/7, with 70,000 documents imported per month (10,000 manually, 60,000 automatically) and 90,000 daily consultations. Milor+ manages various document types, including raw material files, certifications, evaluations, communication files and advertisements, with the capability to manage more document types being expanded continuously.
Looking to the future
L’Oréal is planning to upgrade to Nuxeo's LTS 2023 version and integrating electronic signatures through DocuSign. Future initiatives include exploring generative AI capabilities to extract value from unstructured data within the document database.
