Hyland again partners with TECH CORPS on annual CSEdWeek initiative
Program designed to inspire careers in technology, matching Hyland’s philanthropic mission
Hyland again will partner with TECH CORPS on 2024 CSEdWeek, an annual event designed to inspire students to learn computer science, advocate for equity in computer science education, and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers and partners within the field. This year’s CSEdWeek will take place Dec. 9-15.
Hyland has partnered with TECH CORPS on the event for the last several years; in that span, the program has reached more than 17,000 students nationwide.
Participating teachers will receive free computer science lessons and activities for their classrooms, free T-shirts (while supplies last), stickers for their students and a chance to win $1,000 worth of computer science supplies for their classrooms, all funded by Hyland.
Hyland employees also will provide participants details about their tech journeys, experiences and expertise. This year’s theme is focused on empowering students to visualize and explore technology careers while elevating their problem-solving skills.
“We’re extremely proud of our continued partnership with TECH CORPS and delivering on our mission of building and inspiring careers in technology,” said Derek Walker, Hyland’s senior vice president, engineering. “We’re reaching thousands of students during CSEdWeek, and demonstrating for them the exciting potential of a career in the industry.”
“This year’s theme is focused on empowering students to visualize and explore technology careers while elevating their problem-solving skills,” said Lisa M. Chambers, TECH CORPS chief executive officer. “We could not think of a better partner than Hyland for this year’s theme.”
Hyland’s continued involvement with #CSEdWeek extends its long-standing efforts to provide access to technology programming and education for students who might otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in such events. Additional Hyland technology education efforts include:
- Tech Outreach: Hyland provides a variety of programs, like Hy-Tech Clubs for high school students, that teach computer science to support a future where technology skills are essential.
- Ohio Tech Day: Designed to include and inspire students to pursue futures in tech, Ohio Tech Day brings high school students (from MC2STEM High School and Euclid Middle School) to Hyland headquarters in Westlake, where they participate in a coding activity using MakeCode Arcade and learn more about coding languages. Hyland employees speak to students about their roles, career paths and department overviews.
- CSEdWeek In partnership with our nonprofit partner, TECH CORPS, Hyland supports the annual Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) by creating and delivering computer science curriculum to students around the country.
- Y.O.U.: Longtime partnership with Youth Opportunities Unlimited, through which Hyland has supported internship programs – five students are interning at Hyland in summer 2024. Hyland has hosted virtual career panels featuring representatives from many technical roles (cybersecurity, software development and more), and Hyland employees also have served as instructors and mentors for sophomores and juniors in Cuyahoga County.
- Cristo Rey Network: Hyland’s longstanding relationship with the Cristo Rey Corporate Work Study program includes support for eight students from Cleveland-based St. Martin de Porres High School and four students from the Kansas City-based Cristo Rey High School in a year-long, in-person work study program.
- Weekly coding pilot program at Cleveland’s Urban Community School
