Hyland announces 2024 recipients of Hyland Fund grants
Awardees chosen based on alignment to Hyland’s philanthropic mission to build and inspire careers in tech
Hyland has announced the 2024 recipients of grants from the Hyland Fund, the company’s corporate-advised fund that amplifies Hyland’s long-standing philanthropic impact and mission to build and inspire careers in technology.
This year’s grant recipients include:
- LEARN Science and Math Club: Geeks for Kids and Invent for Good programs
- Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.): Internship program
- HIT in the CLE: Coding Community Classroom
- BDPA Cleveland: AI for ALL initiative
- Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio: DreamLab
- Replay for Kids: Toy adaptation workshops
- Great Lakes Science Center: Robotics initiative
- MAGNET Cleveland: First technical challenge
“We’re proud to recognize and further assist these organizations, which are doing phenomenal work in extending tech education in our community,” said Lisa Jackman, Hyland’s director of employee communications and community. “The value of knowledge and experience in tech continues to grow, and we’ll continue our mission of building and inspiring careers in the industry with these organizations and others.”
Grant awardees, who in total will receive over $100,000 in all, are selected in partnership with The Cleveland Foundation, founded in 1914 as the world’s first community foundation and which provides strategic and administrative assistance for the Hyland Fund. Hyland’s partnership with Cleveland Foundation deepens ties between the two prominent organizations, which also have partnered on the MidTown Collaboration Center, part of a 12-acre innovation district spearheaded by the foundation in Cleveland’s MidTown neighborhood.
The grants extend Hyland’s long-standing efforts to provide access to technology programming and education for students who might otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in such events. Additional Hyland technology education efforts include:
- Tech Outreach: Hyland provides a variety of programs, like Hy-Tech Clubs for high school students, that teach computer science to support a future where technology skills are essential.
- Ohio Tech Day: Designed to include and inspire students to pursue futures in tech, Ohio Tech Day brings high school students (from MC2STEM High School and Euclid Middle School) to Hyland headquarters in Westlake, where they par icipate in a coding activity using MakeCode Arcade and learn more about coding languages. Hyland employees speak to students about their roles, career paths and department overviews.
- CSEdWeek: In partnership with our nonprofit partner, TECH CORPS, Hyland supports the annual Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) by creating and delivering computer science curriculum to students around the country.
- Y.O.U.: Longtime partnership with Youth Opportunities Unlimited, through which Hyland has supported internship programs – five students are interning at Hyland in summer 2024. Hyland has hosted virtual career panels featuring representatives from many technical roles (cybersecurity, software development and more), and Hyland employees also have served as instructors and mentors for sophomores and juniors in Cuyahoga County.
- Cristo Rey Network: Hyland’s longstanding relationship with the Cristo Rey Corporate Work Study program includes support for eight students from Cleveland-based St. Martin de Porres High School and four students from the Kansas City-based Cristo Rey High School in a year-long, in-person work study program.
- Weekly coding pilot program at Cleveland’s Urban Community School
